The Orchestra

The Musicians’ Initiative (MI) is a non-profit Singaporean orchestra which performs Classical concerts and operas. MI focuses on nurturing the artistic growth of aspiring professional musicians to be among the world’s best by providing opportunities of the highest caliber. Through innovative and bold presentations, the orchestra aims to inspire and develop audiences and spread the gift of music to all segments of the community. 

The Musicians’ Initiative values Creativity through our presentations, Contribution to our artistic community, Camaraderie in Singapore’s Artistic circle, and Mastery of our Art.

The Orchestra’s Tagline: “Your Experience” aspires to prioritise the holistic experience of each of our audience by continuing to include unique productions that boldly cross the norms in today’s classical music concerts. In 2018, MI launched its popular “Your Curated Experience” series which includes a lecture-concert format that animates the ingenuity behind composers and their works. Through our performances, we redefine the meaning of orchestral music in Singapore.

Throughout the years MI has collaborated with local arts companies and artists, including The Opera People in 2018, Deutsche Grammaphon Artist, Kanon Matsuda in 2019, and internationally acclaimed conductor and director of orchestras at the Eastman School of Music, Neil Varon. MI is led by Principal Conductor Alvin Arumugam and Associate conductor Edward Tan.
